Condolences for Alan “Al” J. Reichart

Dear Reichart family, It was my honor and privilege to play with Al in the Springfield Municipal Band for many years. He was part of our "powerhouse" trombone section that included such fine musicians as Larry Niehaus and Tom Swift. Al performed with the Muny Band at the American Music Festival in Graz, Austria. We also played in Vienna and Salzburg during our 1990 tour. Occasionally Al and I appeared on stage with Fritz and the Flying Dutchmen, a German band in Springfield. Al looked better than most of us in our Bavarian lederhosen. Finally, Al and I participated in myriad church services and Springfield Municipal Opera pit orchestras through the years. Al was fairly quiet (except when he played his trombone!), always dependable, friendly and the kind of guy you just enjoyed being around. During his lifetime, Al gave pleasure and entertainment to thousands of individuals who heard him perform. We all lost a genuinely fine human being. I'll miss you Al. May God bless Al and your family now and always. Sleep in peace Al and Godspeed. John Headrick Springfield, IL

I have many wonderful memories of performing with Al in the Lincoln Land Community College Big Band. I remember him as a kind and gentle man. Thank you for such lovely memories! Rest In Peace

I played with Al for a long time. When he got the feel for a tune, he was off and going. I’m sorry to see such a creative and talented artist leave all too soon. RIP

Al sat next to me in the Springfield Municipal Band. He was such an easy going fun person and always had a funny story to share.

I worked with Al at the DCFS Office in Carlinville, IL. There were four of us who shared a small office with one telephone. Al was very good working with families and kids on his caseload. He also had a great sense of humor that helped all of us to keep going. We enjoyed Al's company at his house in Carlinville and also at our house on occasion. I haven't seen Al for many years. Al, the music in Heaven will now sound sweeter.

Lots of memories Al, from High School and beyond. Always a smile to remember. We will always laugh at the Austria tour and playing in the empty swimming pool. RIP dear friend.

So sorry to hear of Al’s death. He was a fun guy and we used to laugh a lot in muni band. We have missed him! See you on the other side, buddy!
