George was the best neighbor anyone could have. Friendly, watchful, helpful, informative, humorous and caring. We will miss George deeply. As an alderman, George was a constant source of knowledge and on the ground opinion. George was a man of action. Lynn and I will forever be grateful for hundreds upon hundreds of testimonial letters he and Mary Jo signed in support of my election efforts to represent SW Springfield neighborhoods on the City Council. Their door was always open with a welcoming hello. George’s acts of friendship and civic mindedness will live on with all who knew him. Mary Jo, our hearts are with you as you suffer the loss of such a devoted man and husband.

Jim and I send our sincere condolences to all of George's family. He was a wonderful neighbor, always helpful and kind to others. We will miss seeing he and his wife walking their dogs.. He was even my Geometry teacher in high school. George will be greatly missed.

My condolences to your family. I have crossed paths with Mr Haven a few times over the years, I think probably always around or near a soccer field , but even if hadn't I would have never forgotten him. He was the kind of teacher that taught you more than a subject. Its been a few years, I think it was Freshman Algebra in 80-81, but he made a lasting impact on me and many others. He will be missed.

Condolences to George’s family. Knew him in so many areas; District 186, youth soccer, soccer official, youth and high school. He contributed to so many lives. Know he will be sadly missed.

George and I worked together at both Franklin Middle School and District 186 Personnel Office and I much appreciated his friendship at both locations. I was very saddened to learn of his passing. My heartfelt condolences to you, Mary Jo, and to all of George's family.

All of us at Neuhoff Media Springfield and Sports Radio 92.3/1450 send our sympathy to the Haven family. George was a special listener and friend of the station for as long as I can remember. May he rest in peace....

I have many memories of working with George in his various capacities in District 186. So many times he was of great help to me with either action or advice. I will truly miss him and I treasure the last conversation I had with him which was about puzzles, bakeries and Pike County.

Heartfelt sympathy, caring thoughts, prayers. George was a true inspiration in so many wonderful ways - family, friends, personality, professional, role model, positivity. Wishing the family and friends: a song in your hearts; sunshine after the clouds; a rainbow after the rain. Special angel. Cherished memories. Peace.

I was fortunate enough to call this amazing man my father-in-law. He absolutely doted on his loving wife, Mary Jo, his son, Patrick, grandson Graham and on me. His loss leaves a giant hole in our family and in the community. No one gave more of themselves to others than George. I know he has been reunited with Patrick and they are catching up after 11 years apart. Bless them both. They are in God’s loving embrace now.
