Ernie and my father where life long friends. I remember asking Ernie to do a special project for me before he retired,He told me “people retire from a job or a career, Not a Calling “. I think that says it all ! I take comfort in knowing he and my father are holding court again and BS’ing !!!!!! God bless you and your family my friend. C.Chambers

Many memories but most of all were the ones for a short time when I was working for him for a short time. Watching his absolutely stunning skills going thru laying out the graphics on a Funny car body and applying the Kandy colors (Yes Kandy) were absolutely amazing. I have been this business since 1978 professionally and there are only two people I know in Springfield of anywhere else that should be in some sorts of a "Hall of Fame" and that's Ernie Ball and Robert " Pinky" Williams. Im positive they are both in Gods shop working on a project that will be directed thru some young man/woman's hands and turned into the next generation of Artists. I have by no means the talent they had no mater my accolades, but I did pay attention and do my best. These two men were friends and legends. And always will be. Miss you both and I hope you joke about me in Heaven when I arrive!

One of the few really "good guys"! Met Ernie through a mutual friend Tony, (earlly 70's) which began a long an lasting friendship. Ernie an Sharon always welcoming with a smile an open/genuine "glad to see U" feeling. Ernie was always ready to help out when U were n a pinch or just wanted to have some work done. That "Pearl" paint job on my Vett was "The Best" Many Thanks for everything my friend, an my Best to your family.

I am so sad for Sharon, Dave, Jeff, and the families, Ernie was a great man. I will miss you Ernie! I have so many great times to remember, lots of late nights in the shop getting the van ready for the ISCA shows. I learned so much from you and you were always willing to show me things. Over the years life happened and we kinda drifted apart. But when we seen each other it always started with a big hug and then time to catch up. I am so glad we got to make that Steak n Shake run a few weeks ago. And so glad to be welcomed into your birthday party. Rest in Peace my good friend, I love you buddy! Always your friend, Dino

My sincerest condolences to Sharon, Jeff, Dave and family on your loss of a wonderful guy, artist, auto body artist and neighbor! Ernie and Dave always did superb auto body work on many of my vehicles. My prayers for your family for your great loss of such a fine man. Just know that now when you see a beautiful pallet of colors in a sunset or sunrise it is your beloved Ernie that painted it there for you to know he is watching over you.

Ernie was one to the nice's guys I ever met. Over the years he fixed issues with many of my cars and my family did business with him.He was not just good, he was great. I have a special memory of Ernie. When I retired from the SIU School of Medicine, the staff had Ernie design and paint a special chair for me in remembrance of my many years there. He will not be forgotten. My condolences to his family. May the legend rest in peace.

Ernie and I sanded cars for the other great in Springfield, Mandy Holder. I’m sure a few remember that name. We were just a couple grunts for Mandy but Ernie was like a sponge Learning everything he could. We have been friends since the 60’s kept in contact as much as possible. He loved his work I used to hang at the shop once in awhile. Miss you my ole Friend.
