I was a close friend of Elva. We worked together for the Secretary of States Office 1953-1955. We kept in touch by emails for years and exchanging Christmas cards and notes. I sent her a card this year and wondered why I hadn t received one from her. She was a very special friend. I am so sorry to hear of her passing.

I met Elva many years ago at First National Bank where we worked together in the Data Processing Customer Service Department. When the bank disbanded the Data Processing Department and we all went in different directions, our department decided that we wanted to stay connected and meet once a month. We felt our meetings needed a name and hence, the 'Huggers' were born. Even when I came in on vacation, I would make sure I let them know and we would have our meeting at that time. The ladies played such an important part in my life and Elva was a major part of that. I always felt a special connection to her - maybe because we were closer in age. I had tried to reach her to get together, wish I could have seen her one more time. Prayers and healing to Tom and family. You already know what a wonderful wife and mother she was and she will be greatly missed by all.

I met Elva when I started my first job straight out of college in 1993 at FirstBank of Illinois. I got to know her and Pat Gall quickly - they were like grandmother figures to me and we soon realized we had common interests - golfing and drinking a beer, so the age difference didn't seem to matter. For several years we walked the links of Pasfield, Bunn, and Bergen Parks after work, and joining for supper and a drink afterwards. Even after mergers and retirements separated us, we and a few others from the Bank would get together periodically to discuss old times. I did not realize she had been ill, as I just recently sent her a message on FB to get together for lunch in December. Elva was one of the good ones - I will sure miss her. I hope she and Pat are hitting the links in heaven. Prayers to her family that she loved so much.

My sympathies to Tom, Stu, Gayle, Karl, Mildred and all your families. As her cousins (many of our parents) passed away Elva became the glue that kept all our families connected and reunited us to the rest of our family in Germany as well. Her kindness, hospitality and love of family didnt go unnoticed and will be missed.
