Condolences for Valerius Messerick OFM

I met Fr. Val while he was pastor at Guardian Angels in Chaska and St. Nicholas in Carver. At the time, I was considering a vocation. Fr. Val helped me and mentored me. He was an incredible man. I became interested in philosophy from my talks with him, and I eventually received a BA in Philosophy from St. Mary's University in Winona. I spent one year at OLA Seminary in Quincy, and another year at IHM Seminary in Winona, before entering Sacred Heart School of Theology in Hales Corners, WI. During that time, I discerned that I did not have a vocation as a priest, but Fr. Val helped me become a much better person than I could have been without his mentoring. I have now been married for 23 years, and I have a 19-year old son (a freshman in college) and a 16-year old daughter (a junior in high school).
