William “Bill” R. Purves, 81, of Springfield, died at 7:40 am, Tuesday, January 3, 2012 at River Birch Senior Living. He was born August 24, 1930 in Springfield, Illinois to William J. and Hazel Hurlbut Purves. He married Billie Ruliffson on January 13, 1951 and she survives. Also surviving are three sons, Tom (Linda) Purves of Beaumont, TX, David (Cheryl) Purves of Springfield and Rob (Rebecca) Purves of Sikeston, MO; six grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Larry Purves.
Bill was a U.S. Army veteran serving during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of Third Presbyterian Church, Carpenters Union Local #16 and was a avid baseball and stock car racing fan. He was a carpenter and worked for Jones & Blythe Construction for many years.
Visitation: 10-11 am, Thursday, January 5, 2012 at Third Presbyterian Church.
Funeral Service: 11 am, Thursday, January 5, 2012 at Third Presbyterian Church with Pastor Brent Mitchell officiating. Burial will be in Oak Ridge Cemetery
