William L. Livingstone

SPRINGFIELD – William Bill Livingstone, 79, of Springfield died at 8:20 a.m. Thursday, May 15, 2008, at Memorial Medical Center.

He was born Oct. 8, 1928, in Springfield, the son of William R. and Sadie Wables Livingstone. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Patti Greene-Livingstone; and son-in-law, Carl Coleman.

Mr. Livingstone was a lifelong resident of Springfield. He was a Realtor for 30 years and retired from the state of Illinois Department of Public Aid as an executive after eight years of service.

He was a graduate of Springfield High School and Brown’s Business College and retired from U.S. Naval Reserves. He was a partner in the development of Westchester subdivision. He was captain of the Springfield High School football team that was inducted into the Springfield Sports Hall of fame. He was an avid golfer and bowler in the Springfield area. He was past president of Oakcrest Country Club and past president of Springfield Board of Realtors. He was a 59-year member of Elks Lodge 158, where he served as past exalted ruler and past secretary. He also served as past secretary of Elks bowling league and served as past president of Illinois Elks State Bowling Association. He was a past member of the Blue Ridge Club. He was currently a member and secretary of Eagles Aerie 437.

Surviving are his wife, Phyllis (Warner) Livingstone of Springfield, whom he married on Sept. 4, 1999; two daughters, Carolyn Coleman of Baltimore and Christy (husband, Kenny) Shewmaker of Springfield; a son, John (wife, Barb) Livingstone of Springfield; seven grandchildren, Chad and Jeremy Coleman, Lindsey (husband, Matt) Murphy, Gretchen Shewmaker, Katy, Abby and Maddie Livingstone; a brother-in-law, Dennis (wife, Kim) Larson of Springfield; a niece; a nephew; and several cousins.

Visitation will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday, May 17, 2008, at Staab Funeral Home. Elks service will be at 4 p.m. with a funeral service to follow with Vaughn Beeman officiating. Burial will be private.

Memorials to the Eagle’s Club, Elks Lodge or the American Cancer Society.
