William E. Kerske
SPRINGFIELD – William E. Kerske Sr., 85, of Springfield died at 8:40 a.m. Friday, Feb. 27, 2009, at Memorial Medical Center.
He was born January 22, 1924, in Springfield, the son of Fred and Nellie Landacre Kerske. He married Kelly Shinnick in 1941; she preceded him in death on Jan. 23, 1988.
He was also preceded in death by his parents; a son, Robert Kerske Sr.; and a daughter, Nancy Perry.
He is survived by three daughters, Marilyn (husband, Jim) Martin of Springfield, Linda Kerske of Longmont, Colo. and Kathy (husband, Brock) Dunlap of New Berlin; three sons, William E. Kerske Jr. of Springfield, John Kerske (companion, Rose Williams) of Roach, Mo. and Jim L. (wife, Sarah Sam) Kerske of Pleasant Hill, Mo.; 14 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.
William was a lifelong resident of Springfield. He retired from Fiatallis. He was a member of St. Cabrini Church, EAA, Quarter Midgets of America, NHRA and UAW. He enjoyed model railroading.
Visitation will be from 2 p.m. until the time of funeral services at 4 p.m. Sunday, March 1, 2009, at Staab Funeral Home, with the Rev. Richard Chiola officiating. Private burial will be at Calvary Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the William E. Kerske Sr. Memorial Fund.

Bill and my Mom June had a lot of Fun and Happy times. And wonderful trips together over the Years. He sat by her side every evening with me till 3 or 4 am at St. Johns North till the night she passed away. I could never Thank enough for making her so happy. Sorry for your loss. I live in Florida and don't get to Illinois as much. I am sure they are laughing and having there coffee.
