William "Bill" Pumphrey
William “Bill” L. Pumphrey, 86, of Chatham, died at 3:10 pm, Saturday, February 21, 2015 at St. John’s Hospice. He was born July 29, 1928, near Pawnee, the son of William Curtis and Minnie (Ennis) Pumphrey. He married Patricia N. Wilcox on January 11, 1952, and she survives.
Also surviving are one son, Charles “Chuck” (Heidi) Pumphrey of Chatham; four grandchildren: Donna (Adam) Forness, Wills Pumphrey, Lauren Pumphrey and Riley Morris; and one great-grandson, John Forness; two nieces and a cousin. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Lucille Brown in 1994; and daughter-in-law, Doris Pumphrey in 1995.
Bill was a resident of Springfield most of his life prior to moving to Chatham in 1995. He was a U.S. Navy veteran, serving from 1946 to 1947. He retired from the Illinois Secretary of State as a Stationary Engineer. He was a member of Sugar Creek United Methodist Church.
He enjoyed working on cars and driving big trucks and heavy equipment.

Funeral Service: 11 am, Wednesday, February 25, 2015 at Staab Funeral Home with Reverend Allen Miller officiating. Burial will follow at Horse Creek Cemetery in Pawnee.
