William "Bill" Ernest Word
William “Bill” Ernest Word, Jr. of Springfield died at 3:54 am, Monday, May 7, 2012 at St. John’s Hospice. He was born September 18, 1930 in San Diego, CA to William E. Word, Sr. and Betty Myers Word. He married Kim C. Clocker on July 2, 1955 and she preceded him in death on October 20, 2011. His parents; one son, Marty Word and an infant daughter also preceded him in death.
His is survived by a daughter Debbie (Don) Melton of Roby; son, William “Bill” (Robyn) Word, III of Northridge, CA; five grandsons, Nicholas J. (Stacey) Melton, Brandon L. Melton, Jacob B. Melton, Ryan Word and Blake Word and eight great grandchildren.
Bill was a U.S. Marine veteran serving during the Korean War and he carried his military training into his household. He was a dedicated husband and hard worker. Working six days a week so his wife could stay home with the kids and took care of her during her sickness. He loved to golf and watch football. He was a Chicago Bears and a Rams fan.
He retired as a Retail Manager with J.C. Penney after many years.
Private services are planned with burial to be held at a later date at Camp Butler national Cemetery.
