Willard Dean, 79 of Springfield, died Friday, December 24, 2010 at St. John’s Hospice. He was born on March 13, 1931 in Parkerburg, IL to Frank and Olive Bullard Dean. He married Norma Kiger Bandy in 1963. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Jim and Donald Dean and sister Dorothy.
A Springfield resident since 1971, Mr. Dean retired from the United States Postal Service after 33 years of service. He was a United States Army veteran serving in Japan as corporal during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of the VFW, American Legion and AmVets. He loved camping for the past 20 years in Missouri, especially at the Cloud Nine Ranch. Willard was an avid Cubs fan.
Surviving are his wife; Norma of Springfield, 3 daughters; Christine (Dr. Michael) Norman of Edinburg, Kathy (Ron) Allarie of Henderson, KY and Vicki (Rick) Tapp of Sebree, KY, 2 sons; John (Janet) Bandy of Chatham, IL and Carl (Brenda) Bandy of Flora, IL, 7 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren, 2 brothers; Vernie (Ruby) Dean of Stanford, IL and Dale (Dianne) Dean of Lafayette, TN and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Visitation: 12 noon to 1pm, Thursday, December 30, 2010 at Staab Funeral Home
Funeral: 1:00 p.m. Thursday, December 30, 2010 at Staab Funeral Home with Scott Brindley officiating.
Burial will be at Camp Butler National Cemetery where Sangamon County Interveterans Burial Detail will conduct military honors. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial be made to the Ronald McDonald House, 610 North 7th Street, Springfield, IL 62702.
