Wendy Sue Ward
Wendy Sue Ward, 62, of Springfield passed away peacefully in her sleep on Friday, March 25, 2022, at St. John’s Hospital following a long illness. She is survived by her parents, Carole Anne and John Ward, and her brothers, Doug, and Gregg.
Wendy was born in McKeesport, PA, on December 15, 1959. She grew up in Crown Point, IN, graduating from Crown Point High School in 1978. Following high school, Wendy attended MacMurray College in Jacksonville, IL where she graduated in 1982 with a degree in Criminal Justice.
Wendy settled in Springfield, IL and began her 30-year career with the State of Illinois, Department of Public Aid retiring as a Medical Assistant Consultant. In 2012 she was honored to be chosen to participate in the FBI Springfield Citizen Academy.
Wendy loved to travel and enjoyed many trips to Mexico, Jamaica, and Florida. She also enjoyed entertaining with her many friends allowing her to bake her well-known sausage bread. Most of all, Wendy loved her dogs Lincoln, Tad, and Mary Todd, who crossed the Rainbow Bridge in 2021.
Although a private family ceremony will be held, Wendy had a diverse group of friends and her family hopes they will gather, possibly around a billiards table, a game she excelled at, around a swimming pool soaking up the rays, at the Old Lux enjoying steak and lobster, or at one of her favorite taverns and reminisce about the good times they shared with Wendy.
It was Wendy’s dream to relocate to Florida so her ashes will be scattered on a Florida beach where she and her beloved Mary Todd will surely have fun in the sun free of illness and pain.
