Walter “Walt” H. Staber, 87 of Springfield, died at 8:50 pm, Tuesday, March 20, 2012, at his home. He was born September 23, 1924, in Springfield, to Walter Henry and Bertha M. Fore Staber, Sr. He married Harriet M. Miller on May 10, 1952. They would have celebrated 60 years of marriage.
Surviving are his wife, Harriet; one daughter, Nancy Staber of Springfield; two sons, John H. and Daniel K. (Kimberly) Staber both of Springfield; three grandchildren, Andrew, Chloee and Samuel Staber; three great grandchildren, Gavyn, Olivia and Landon; several nieces, nephews and cousins and several great nieces and great nephews.
Preceding him in death were his parents; one grandson, Zachary; four sisters, Mary Francis Wells and Barbara Dew, and infant sisters, Ina June and Betty Jane.
Walt was a U.S. Army Air Corp Veteran. He loved fishing, working on family projects, was an avid sports fan. He was a member of the AFL-CIO Grain Millers Local 41 and enjoyed meeting his Pillsbury buddies at the Monday morning breakfast club at Ritz’s Lil Fryer. He worked as an Electrical Trouble Shooter at Pillsbury Mill, retiring as the most senior employee in 1991 when the mill closed.
Visitation: 4 – 7 pm, Monday, March 26, 2012 at Staab Funeral Home.
Funeral Service: 10 am, Tuesday, March 27, 2012 at Staab Funeral Home with Reverend Rodney Schwartz officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery
