Walter A. Zake
SPRINGFIELD – Walter A. Zake, 89, of Springfield died at 7:09 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 10, 2009, at his residence.
He was born Oct. 29, 1919, in Riverton, the son of Henry and Elizabeth Clement Zake. He married Jennie Mae Lohman on Nov. 28, 1959. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Henry and Charlie; and three sisters, Martha, Elizabeth and Minnie.
Mr. Zake, a lifelong resident of the Springfield area, was a sheet metal worker at Pillsbury Mills, retiring after 40 years of service.
He was a U.S. Army veteran serving during World War II and a member of the Farm Bureau and VFW Post 755.
Surviving are his wife, Jennie Mae Zake of Springfield; a daughter, Sharon Anderson of Springfield; two grandchildren, Roderick Anderson of Chicago and Dawn Anderson of Springfield; four great-grandchildren, Leah Smith, Ryan Smith, Michael Anderson and Jennifer Anderson; a sister, Wanda Leckrone of Chesapeake, Va.; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Visitation will be from noon until time of funeral service at 1 p.m. Friday, Feb. 13, 2009, at Staab Funeral Home with Vaughn Beeman officiating. Burial will be in Camp Butler National Cemetery where military honors will be conducted.
