Virginia G. Belton
SPRINGFIELD – Virginia G. Belton, 86, of Springfield died at 7:15 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 23, 2008, at Memorial Medical Center.
She was born May 6, 1922, in Atterberry, the daughter of Beck and Lorene Ortman Atterberry. She married Cecil Kenneth Tuck Belton on July 17, 1943, in Denver. She was preceded in death by her parents; and a daughter, Deanna Gail.
Mrs. Belton, a resident of Jerome most of her life, worked at Northwestern Mutual Insurance Co. for 12 years, but foremost was a stay-at-home mom.
She was a longtime member of Jerome United Methodist Church, where she participated in the Women’s Activity Group, taught Sunday school and sang in the choir. She served as president of the former Jerome Women’s Club and also was a leader in Brownie and Girl Scout Troops.
Surviving are her husband, Cecil Kenneth Tuck Belton of Springfield; two daughters, Linda (husband, John) Ahlen of Little Rock, Ark., and Jill (husband, Forman) Hardwick of Springfield; four grandchildren, Derek (wife, Shanna) Welker, Leah Welker and Alex and Andrew Hardwick; and two great-grandchildren, Will and Barrett Welker.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 26, 2008, at Staab Funeral Home, and the body will lie in state from 9 a.m. until time of services at 10 a.m. Monday at Jerome United Methodist Church with the Rev. Paul Black officiating. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery in Petersburg.
