Verlaine E. Riemenschneider Mehlberg
SPRINGFIELD – Verlaine E. Riemenschneider Mehlberg, 83, of Springfield, formerly of Litchfield, died at 10:40 a.m. Friday, May 1, 2009, at Memorial Medical Center.
She was born May 10, 1925, in Litchfield, the daughter of Edward and Irma Hinz Riemenschneider. She married Clarence Hart Mehlberg in June of 1943. They lived on a farm in North Litchfield. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and a sister, Irma Jean Clesson.
Mrs. Mehlberg worked at St. Francis Hospital for many years until retiring. She attended Little Flower Church. She spent time as co-leader of The New Hope Queenettes 4-H Club when her daughter, Kathy, was a member. After retiring, she moved to Springfield. She was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan and she loved flowers.
Surviving are a daughter, Kathy Caruso of Springfield; a granddaughter, Kristina (husband, Charles) Barber of Springfield; three great-grandchildren, David, Michael and Adam Barber; three brothers, Harold (wife, Velma), Robert (wife, Carol) and Ray (wife, Judy) Riemenschneider, all of Litchfield; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until time of funeral Mass at 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 5, 2009, at Little Flower Church, 800 Stevenson Drive, Springfield, IL 62703, with Monsignor John Ossola officiating. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery in Litchfield.
