Vera Mae Ward
Springfield formerly of El Paso, Bloomington and Greenup died at 4:20 am on Saturday, September 20, 2014 at Regency. She was born on November 1, 1933 in Greenup to William Oliver and Gladys Sherwood Shofner. She married Edgar M. “Ed” Ward on July 5, 1957 and he preceded her in death on March 7, 2013.
Also preceding her in death were her parents, two brothers, Sherwood and Maurice Shofner and two sisters, Vivian Brosamer and Camelia Boyd.
Vera was a member of Cross Pointe Church of God in Bloomington. She was a Sunday school teacher for many years, teaching two and three year old children. She was a seamstress, making her children’s clothing and loved to crochet and cross stitch. After graduation from high school, she worked as a bookkeeper at Faultless Feed in Springfield. Vera and Ed enjoyed traveling on cruise ships and visited five continents.
Surviving are five children, Gladys (Steve) Briggs of Madison, WI, Carolyn Ward of Springfield, Nancy (David) Gudino of Basking Ridge, NJ, Jill (Joshua Green) Ward of Los Angeles, CA and Gregory (Karen Osness) Ward of Kent, WA; seven grandchildren; one great granddaughter; twin sister, Verna Thomas of Morton and sister, Ruby Hutson of Greenup and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Visitation: 12 pm, Saturday, September 27, 2014 at First Church of God, 2800 Stevenson Drive, Springfield, IL.
Funeral Service: at 1:00 pm, Saturday, September 27, 2014 at First Church of God with Reverend Dr. Kevin Summers officiating. Burial will follow at Farmington Cemetery.
