Velma R. Stapleton
SPRINGFIELD – Velma R. Stapleton, 90, a resident of Springfield for most of her life, died at 11:10 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 26, 2008, at St. Joseph’s Home.
She was born Oct. 27, 1917, in Pleasant Plains, the daughter of Ivan and Jessie R. White Sebring. She married John P. Stapleton in 1937; he preceded her in death Sept. 17, 1992.
Also preceding her in death were her parents; three brothers, Ivan, Thomas and Charles Sebring; and a sister, Ruth Frank.
Mrs. Stapleton was a homemaker and a member of Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception.
Surviving are two daughters, Virginia (husband, Albert) Kunz of Springfield and Patricia Pat Stapleton of Sigel; four sons, John (wife, Nancy) Stapleton of Downers Grove, Kevin Stapleton of Santa Monica, Calif., Terrence Stapleton of Olympia, Wash., and Mark (wife, Carol) Stapleton of Springfield; nine grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 29, 2008, at Staab Funeral Home, with prayers at 5 p.m. Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 30, 2008, at St. Mary’s Church in New Berlin, with the Rev. Angel Sierra officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery in New Berlin.
