Velletta Howse

Velletta Howse, 78, of Springfield died at 2:46 am Sunday June 15, 2014 at her home. She was born May 4, 1936 in East St. Louis, IL to Jessie J. and Lydia A. Rice Smith. She married David Howse, Sr. on April 8, 1960 and he survives.

Also surviving are two sons David (LeAnne) Howse, Jr. and Darius (Angela Trowbridge) Howse both of Springfield; two grandchildren Lauren and Evan; two step-children, Urlonda Briggs, of Texas and Lloyd Harris of Pennsylvania; one sister, Marilyn Watson of Ohio, one great aunt; two nephews and several cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents Jessie J. Smith and Lydia A. Perry.
Velletta retired after more than thirty years of service as an LPN at St. John’s Hospital. She was a member of Union Baptist Church and AARP. She loved her church and enjoyed dining with friends and spending time in their company and helping them out.

Visitation: 10-11 am, Thursday, June 19, 2014 at Union Baptist Church.

Funeral Service: 11 am, Thursday, June 19, 2014 at Union Baptist Church with Pastor T. Ray McJunkins officiating.

Burial will follow at Oak Ridge Cemetery.

The family requests that memorial contributions be made to Union Baptist Church.
