SPRINGFIELD – Toni Gortz, 86, of Springfield died at 6:35 p.m. Wednesday, June 10, 2009, at St. John’s Hospital.
She was born Oct. 6, 1922, in Virden, the daughter of Joe and Adrienne Plumcock Marchizza. She married Louis Gortz on May 20, 1950; he preceded her in death on Oct. 5, 2008.
She was also preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Henry and Felix Marchizza; and two sisters, Georgina Thompson and Nancy Evanchik.
Among her survivors are a nephew, Michael Marchizza of Springfield; a niece, Monica Marchizza of Springfield; and several other nieces and nephews.
Toni was a lifelong resident of the Springfield area. She worked for the State of Illinois as a secretary for Lt. Gov. Sam Shapiro and was also secretary to the Secretary of State Paul Powell, and served as House Postmistress for the House of Representatives, retiring after 30 years.
Toni served as Democratic Precinct Committee Woman. She loved to play bingo and go to the Casinos.
Per her request, no services will be held. Burial will be at Auburn Cemetery.
