Thomas Lee Magro

August 1, 1950 - June 8, 2021

Thomas Lee Magro, 70, of Springfield, passed away at 1:15 am, Tuesday, June 8, 2021, at his home. He was born, August 1, 1950, in Springfield, Illinois, the son of Tony “Tubby” and Marie Magro.

He graduated from St. James Trade School in 1968. After his return from Vietnam, he was honorably discharged on January 16, 1971.

He married Vicky Hall, daughter of Franklin and Ruth Hall on September 25, 1971, and started his family soon after. Thomas “Tom, Tommy” had a strong love for family and an ambiguous look at life. He was a butcher/meat cutter, entrepreneur by trade. His love for the Outdoors took him west where he relocated his family to Miles City, MT for twelve years before returning to Springfield.

In 1993, he started a wild game processing business in addition to his Wildlife Nuisance Control work with the State of Illinois. He expanded his meat processing business with the acquisition of a State Inspected Meat processing plant located in Auburn, IL, that became Magro’s Processing Inc. The success of his work became his family business as his wife, Vicky; son, Tony and daughter, Tracy took over positions.

With his strong conservative mind, Tom believed anything was possible with hard work and again expanded the family business back to Springfield where his son and daughter currently operate Magro’s Meat and Produce in a USDA inspected facility.

He is survived by his wife, Vicky Magro; two sons, Tony (companion: Tara) and Thomas (Carissa) Magro; one daughter, Tracy Magro. six grandchildren, Aubrey, Anthony, Kaylee, Riley, Khloe and Tucker Lee and several cousins.
