Thelma L. Smith
EDINBURG – Thelma L. Smith, 87, of Edinburg died at 5:20 p.m. Saturday, March 14, 2009, at St. John’s Hospice in Springfield, IL.
Thelma was born May 16, 1921, at Westby, Wisconsin, the daughter of Lloyd and Anna Marshall Van Dyke. She married John Edward Smith in 1940 at Sparta, Wisconsin. He preceded her in death in January 2004 and daughter, Ramona Lynn Turner preceded her in death in December 2004. Two brothers, Clyde and Verlyn Van Dyke also preceded her in death.
Mrs. Smith was a homemaker and artist. She was a former member of Third Presbyterian Church in Springfield, former member of Farmingdale Presbyterian Church, and attended Grace Memorial Church in Edinburg.
Survivors: Two daughters, Jeannette, husband Curt Scheifinger of Indiana and Sharon, husband Thomas Rudolph of Mt. Auburn; One son, David, wife Debbie Smith of Springfield and son-in-law, Gary Turner of Colorado; One sister, Marcella Contri, Two brothers, Marvin and Delbert Van Dyke, all of Springfield: One sister-in-law, Bernice Van Dyke of Rochester: 11 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild; several nieces, nephews and many cousins.
Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. on Tuesday, March 17th, 2009, at Staab Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, March 17th, 2009, at Staab Funeral Home with Pastor Ken Lawson officiating.
