Tecumsay Jomo Roberts

Tecumsay Jomo Roberts, Sr., 89, of Ashland, died at 2:55 pm, Monday, May 6, 2013 at St. John’s Hospice. He was born November 26, 1923 in Liberia to Sandy and Gbene Zoedch Roberts. He married Nettie Elizabeth Williams on November 27, 1946 and she survives.

Also surviving are four daughters Marian (Charles) Woelfel of Winston-Salem, NC, Elsie Lancaster of Silver Springs, MD, Gifty (Roosevelt) Smith of Flora, IL and Yarvo Roberts of Ashland; two sons, T. Markous (Teresa) Roberts of Atlanta and Sandy Roberts of Liberia; twenty nine grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, one son, Tecumsay J. Roberts, Jr. and one granddaughter, Nettie Roberts.

Mr. Roberts was a member of Ashland United Methodist Church. He was a Master Mason. He enjoyed history and keeping up with the news and spending time with friends.

Visitation: 9:00-10:15 am, Saturday, May 25, 2013 at First United Methodist Church in Springfield.

Funeral Service: 10:30 am, Saturday, May 25, 2013 at First United Methodist Church, Springfield, with Reverend Roosevelt Sam Smith officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Ridge Cemetery.
