Suezell "Sue" P. Rawski
Suezell “Sue” Rawski, 89, passed away on November 23, 2011 in Springfield, IL. She was born November 7, 1922 in Bear Creek, AL to Oscar E. and Sarah E. “Lizzie” Bishop Pickard, the oldest of their six children. She married Alex Kitcheos, July 21, 1943 and moved to the Chicago area to be near his family. He was killed in the invasion of Normandy on June 15, 1944. After WWII she met
Robert E. “Bob” Rawski at the electronics plant where she worked in support of the war effort. She and Bob were married on May 8, 1948 and they shared wonderful memories building a house and a life together in Glen Ellyn, IL where they raised their five children, and lived for more than 30 years before moving to New Braunfels, TX a year and a half before his death on March 8, 1983. Sue stayed in Texas for another 20 years, making many dear friendships and hosting annual summer visits from her grandchildren before moving to Springfield to be closer to her children. Sue enjoyed gardening, sewing, home decorating, prayer groups and serving in her local church. Both she and Bob shared a desire to help meet the needs of orphaned and needy children. In fact, after Bob’s death, Sue began foster-parenting and shared the warmth of her love and home with twelve children before retiring at 72. In many ways Sue’s life reflected the qualities and character of the godly woman described in Proverbs 31, as she opened her heart and hands to family, friends and strangers alike.
She is survived by two daughters Sheila (Jerald) Fite of Springfield; Suezell Rawski of Winfield, three sons Robert (Nancy) Rawski of Coon Rapids, MN; John (Annette) Rawski of Minneapolis, MN; Mark (Debbie) Rawski of Winfield; ten grandchildren; three great-grandchildren, two sisters Ann Walker and Ira Dean Hawkins both of Malden, MO; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husbands, three brothers, Odel, Huel and Forrest Pickard, preceded her in death.
