Sr. Michaeline Hoffmann, OSF
Sister M. Michaeline Hoffmann, O.S.F. (94) of the Hospital Sisters of St. Francis died on Saturday February 27, 2016 at St. Francis Convent, Springfield, Illinois.
Sister M. Michaeline, the former Marcella Hoffmann, was born in Belleville, Illinois, on March 11, 1921, the daughter of Frank and Mary Ripp Hoffmann. She entered the Congregation on September 7, 1940 and professed her religious vows on October 4, 1943.
Sister Michaeline graduated as an RN from St. John’s School of Nursing, Springfield, Illinois, in 1948. In 1949, she continued post graduate studies in psychiatric nursing at the Illinois School of Psychiatric Nursing. She served the Community as a nurse at HSHS Hospitals in Illinois and Wisconsin. She was a night supervisor at HSHS St. Mary’s Hospital in Decatur, Illinois from 1955 until 1963. Sister was the Nurse Supervisor of Practical Nurses at HSHS St. Anthony’s Memorial Hospital in Effingham, Illinois from 1964 until 1970. In 1970, Sister relocated to Chicago, Illinois and served in home nursing at the Alverna Home Nursing Center until 1972. In 1972, she returned to the Motherhouse in Springfield, Illinois where she served in the Purchasing/Receiving Department until her retirement from active duty in 2011.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers: Cyril Hoffmann, Frank Hoffmann, Jr., and Bernard Hoffmann, and three sisters: Sister M. Francina (Stella) Hoffmann, S.S.N.D., Margaret Wissehr, and Sister M. Joella (Anita) Hoffmann, S.S.N.D.
She is survived by one sister, Bernice Courtemanche of North Providence, Rhode Island, several nieces and nephews as well as her Franciscan Sisters with whom she shared her life for over 75 years.
Visitation will be held at the St. Francis Convent from 4:00-7:00 PM with a Wake Service at 6:00 PM on Thursday March 3, 2016. The Eucharistic Celebration and Rite of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Father Andre Schludecker,OFM on Friday March 4, 2016 at 10:30 am in St. Clare of Assisi Adoration Chapel at the St. Francis Convent. Burial will be in Crucifixion Hill Cemetery.
