Sister Lillian Marie Brown
Sister Lillian Marie Brown, O.S.F. (92) of the Hospital Sisters of St. Francis died on Wednesday, June 17, 2015, at 7:35 AM at St. Francis Convent, Springfield, IL.
Sister Lillian Marie Brown was born in Denver, CO, on June 30, 1922, the daughter of Edward and Lilly Morgan Brown. She entered the Congregation on September 8, 1953, and professed her religious vows on October 4, 1956.
Sister Lillian Marie served the community at St. Mary’s Hospital; Streator, IL;
St. Vincent Hospital, Green Bay, WI; and St. Francis Convent in Springfield, IL, in housekeeping and refectory ministry from 1956 to 1968. In 1968, Sister served as a nurse aide and licensed practical nurse at St. John’s Hospital, Springfield, IL. In 1972, she returned to the Motherhouse to care for the sisters in Loretto Home as an LPN on the night shift. Due to failing vision, Sister relinquished her LPN duties and continued to care for her sisters as a nurse aide until 1992 when she assisted the laundry staff in the St. Francis Convent laundry. In 2003, Sister assumed the ministry of prayer and continued volunteering in the Laundry until she was no longer able.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers: Edward, Michael, and John Brown; and three sisters: Joyce Rouse, Betty Thompson, and Ann Lease.
She is survived by one brother, Patrick (Karen) Brown of Coulee City, WA, a brother-in-law, Fred Thompson, of Filmore, CA, several nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, and her Franciscan Sisters with whom she shared her life for over 61 years.
Visitation: Visitation will be held at St. Francis Convent from 4:00-7:00 PM on Friday,
June 19, 2015, with a Wake Service at 6:00 PM.
Funeral Service: The Eucharistic Celebration and Rite of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Father Andre Schludecker on Saturday, June 20, 2015, at 9:00 AM in St. Clare of Assisi Adoration Chapel at St. Francis Convent.
Burial will be in Crucifixion Hill Cemetery.
