Shirley F. Logan
Shirley F. Logan, 81, of Springfield died Friday, Sept. 21, 2018.
She was born November 12, 1936, in Breese, Illinois, the daughter of Raymond and Rose Engelmeier Furtwengler. She married William F. Logan on June 21, 1958. She was preceded in death by her husband; infant son, John; parents; and brothers, Delmar and Charles.
Mrs. Logan, retired, lived in Springfield, and was formerly of Virden and Breese. She had worked as court stenographer to the Illinois Supreme Court; staff secretary for the Illinois General Assembly; executive legal secretary at Drach, Terrell & Deffenbaugh, P.C.; legal secretary for Sorling, Catron & Hardin; stenographer at the Federal Bureau of Investigation; and civilian stenographer and executive secretary at Scott Air Force Base. For many years, she also served as choir director at Sacred Heart Church, in Virden.
She was an Illinois football and basketball fan, and enjoyed watching the Chicago Bears, Cubs, Blackhawks and Bulls. She was also a skilled duplicate bridge player, and greatly admired by her partners and opponents alike. She had been an avid golfer and won an “over 60” medal in the Woman’s City Golf Tournament. She had a sunny disposition, and was strong and determined throughout her life.
Surviving are two daughters, Lisa Logan of Springfield and Lori (husband, Stanley A.) Logan Motyka of Elburn; three grandchildren, Keven Reed (Heather), Cassidy Motyka and Kyra Motyka; and brother, Robert Furtwengler of Highland.
Visitation will be held from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 27, 2018, at Staab Funeral Home with a prayer service at 4 p.m. Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m., Friday, Sept. 28, 2018, at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Springfield with the Rev. Braden Maher officiating. A graveside service will be held at 2:30 p.m., at Virden Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the American Lung Association.
