Sharon Mae Akers, 72, of Springfield, died at 5:00 am, Sunday, April 24, 2011 at St. John’s Hospital. She was born August 25, 1938 in Jacksonville, Illinois to Floyd and Leta Day Marten. She married Charles W. Akers, Sr. in 1964 and he preceded her in death on March 18, 1983. Also preceding her in death were her parents; one daughter Beth Akers; one infant son, James Albert and two brothers William and Glendon Marsh.
She is survived by one son Richard Akers of Springfield and numerous nieces and nephews.
Sharon was a resident of Springfield since 1962 and was a Lab Technician at Memorial Medical Center for 32 years, retiring in 1988.
Visitation: 5-7 pm, Thursday, April 28, 2011 at Staab Funeral Home.
Funeral Service: 10 am, Friday, April 29, 2011 at Staab Funeral Home with Reverend Mary Ellen Sharp officiating. Burial will be in Oak Ridge Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
