Rose B. Gunther
SPRINGFIELD – Rose Bud Gunther, 85, of Springfield, formerly of Bagdad, Fla., died at 7:28 a.m. Thursday, May 15, 2008, at her daughter’s residence.
She was born Oct. 4, 1922, in Tuscaloosa, Ala., the daughter of Joseph N. and Effie Orene Lawson Dobbs. She married John J. Gunther Jr. on March 5, 1955; he preceded her in death on Nov. 19, 2001. She was also preceded in death by her parents, four brothers and three sisters.
Mrs. Gunther was a bookkeeper. She was a Navy Wave, serving during World War II. She was a member of St. Rose of Lima Church in Milton, Fla., and Bagdad Historical Preservation Society. She was an avid gardener, seamstress and cook.
Surviving are two daughters, Mary Effie Gunther of Bordentown, N.J., and Wilhelmina Willie (Teri) Gunther of Springfield; a son, John J. (wife, Patricia) Gunther III of Pace, Fla.; eight grandchildren, Megan, Madeleine, Jacqueline, Abigail, John J. IV, Beccah, Erika and Michael; foster granddaughter, Halley; four nieces; three nephews; and a cousin.
A memorial service will be held in Florida at a later date. Burial will be in Bagdad Cemetery.
