Rosa Cusumano, 97, passed away Monday, March 18, 2019, at 12:20 a.m. at HSHS St. John’s Hospital surrounded by her loved ones. She was born March 12, 1922 in Montegavo, Sicily to her parents, Calogero and Maria D’Antoni. She married Jaspare Cusumano on March 22, 1942, at the Immaculate Congregation in Montevago, Sicily. He preceded her in death in 1996. She was also preceded in death by four brothers and one sister.
Rosa always had a smile on her face and loved spending time with her family and cooking for them. She was known for her famous, traditional Italian spaghetti and meatballs. She was also an amazing seamstress and spent many years working for SA Barker’s. She and Jaspare also enjoyed planting flowers around their home together.
She is survived by her three sons, Vince (wife, Luisa) Cusumano of Cross Junction, Virginia; Charlie (wife, Carol) Cusumano of Riverton, Illinois; and Joe (wife, Karen) Cusumano of Springfield, Illinois; seven grandchildren, Nicky (husband, John) Christian; Rosanna (husband, Phil) Beaulieu; Michele (fiance, Tony Rossi) Cusumano; Paul (wife, Viviana) Cusumano; Tony Cusumano; Erica (husband, Jason) Johnson; Jenna (fiance, Matt Walters) Cusumano; great grandchildren, Hayley (fiance, Dalton Julian) Christian; Bryce Christian; Christopher Beaulieu; Nicole Beaulieu; Natalie Cusumano-Rossi; Eric Cusumano; Kamille Henson; Alayna Cusumano-Rossi; Madeline Cusumano; great-great granddaughter, Scarlett Julian, nieces and nephews Antonia (husband, Felice) D’Introno, Ana (husband, Nino) Ribaudo and those remembered in Italy.
Visitation: 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Monday, March 25 at St. Joseph Church in Springfield, Illinois.
Funeral: 1 p.m. on Monday, March 25 at St. Joseph Church in Springfield, Illinois, with burial immediately following at Calvary Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the charity of the donor’s choice in Rosa’s name.
