Ronald (Hamilton) Thompson
Ronald (Hamilton) Thompson, 67, of Stonington, died at 2:30 pm, Wednesday, August 12, 2015 at St. John’s Hospital. He was born March 11, 1948 in Jacksonville, to Alto O. and Ruby A. Bull Hamilton. He married Theresa Thompson on December 30, 2003 and she survives.
Also surviving are two daughters, Tammy (Mark) Baehr and Rhonda (Cheryllynn Williams) Taylor both of Springfield; two sons, Rodney Hamilton and Travis (Jennifer) Hamilton both of Springfield; two step-daughters, Jackie (Randy) Shinn and Patti Nation both of Stonington; one step-son, Kris Nation of IA; nineteen grandchildren; four great grandchildren; one sister, Karen Hamilton of Springfield; one brother, Ray (Jackie) Hamilton of Franklin and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parent’s; first wife, Carolyn Hamilton; infant son, Richard Wayne Hamilton; two sisters, Bonnie Harwood and Gloria Schleyhahn and one brother, Larry Hamilton.
Ronald was a US Marine Corps veteran serving during the Vietnam era. He retired from the Illinois Department of Corrections and also had an extensive career in law enforcement.
He was previously a member of the Sangamon County Rescue Squad. He enjoyed his family, motorcycling and was a true country boy.
Visitation: 4-7 pm, Tuesday, August 18, 2015 at Staab Funeral Home.
Funeral Service: 11 am Wednesday, August 19, 2015 at Staab Funeral home with Jay Bishop officiating. Burial will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery, where military honors will be conducted.
