Ronald Eugene "Sarge" Richardson
Ronald Eugene “Sarge” Richardson, 67 of Chatham, died at 1:09 am, Wednesday, September 14, 2016 at Memorial Medical Center. He was born October 15, 1948 in Springfield, to Robert and Alma Wilson Richardson.
Ronald served in the United States Marine Corps for four years and in the IL ANG for one year. While stationed in Okinawa he met and fell in love with, Fumiko “Faye” Nakamura. They married on November 4, 1969 and she survives.
Also surviving are a son, Robert (Nellie) Richardson of Morton and daughter, Melissa (Brian) Bilbruck of Chatham; two grandchildren, Brody and Lauren Bilbruck; two sisters, Linda (Larry) Novak of Glenarm and Beverly (Charlie) Treat of Waverly; six brothers, John “Chip” (Kathy) Richardson, James “JR” Richardson and Clyde (Vicki) Richardson, all of Springfield, Steven Richardson of Nebraska, Richard Richardson of Springfield and David (Jolynne) Richardson of Taylorville.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Ronald was a proud US Marine Corps Veteran serving during the Vietnam War. He formerly served as the Commander of the Chatham VFW and loved the Native American heritage. He worked for Union 441 as a pipefitter/welder.
Visitation: 2-5 pm, Sunday, September 18, 2016 at Staab Funeral Home-Springfield.
Funeral Service: 11:30 am, Monday, September 19, 2016 at Staab Funeral Home-Springfield with Les Morgan officiating.
Burial will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery where military honors will be conducted by the United States Marine Corps and the Sangamon County Inter-Veterans Burial Detail. The Patriot Guard will provide escort.
