Roland R. Netzke
SPRINGFIELD – Roland R. Netzke, a lifelong resident of the Springfield area, died at 8 p.m. on Monday, August 23, 2010 at St. Francis Hospital in Litchfield, IL. He was 89. He was born on January 17, 1921 in Lake Chrystle, MN to Rev. Otto Karl and Helen Hoppenratch Netzke. Roland married his wife of 68 years, Clao Proska, on April 20, 1943. He is preceded in death by his parents; one son, Marcus; three brothers and one sister.
Roland is survived by his wife; two sons, Robert (Vicki) Netzke of Danvers, IL and David Netzke of Riverton; five grandchildren; several great grandchildren; one sister, Beata Cooper of Aiken, MN and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was a US Navy veteran serving during WWII. Roland was a member of Concordia Lutheran Church in Springfield and had retired from Sears as a division manager in 1984 after 39 years.
The family will be hosting a memorial gathering from 10:00 to 10:30 am Friday, August 27, 2010 at Concordia Lutheran Church followed by a memorial service at 10:30 am. Interment will be held at Camp Butler National Cemetery at 1:00 pm Friday, August 27, 2010 with military honors conducted by the Sangamon County Interveterans Burial Detail.
