Robert W. Schmuck
SPRINGFIELD – Robert Bob W. Schmuck, 84, of Springfield died at 12:47 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 17, 2008, at Memorial Medical Center.
He was born March 25, 1924, in Pawnee, the son of Robert and Susanna Prabor Schmuck. He married Joann Pleshe on July 8, 1950, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Pawnee; she preceded him in death on Aug. 1, 2007. Also preceding him in death were his parents; a sister, Helen Nevada; two brothers, Edward and Richard Schmuck; and a grandson, Thomas Borisov.
Mr. Schmuck had been a resident of Springfield since 1959. He retired as a printer from The State Journal-Register.
He was a member of St. Katharine Drexel Parish. He also was a member of Lake Press Club, the Eagles Club and VFW, all in Springfield, and Knights of Columbus and American Legion in Kincaid. He was a diehard Cubs fan and enjoyed fishing and lure making. He was a member of the U.S. Navy, serving during World II aboard the USS Intrepid.
Surviving are a daughter, Michelle (husband, Alex) Borisov of Chatham; a son, Kurtis W. Schmuck of Springfield; four grandchildren, Alexander, Matthew, Joseph and Rachel Borisov; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 19, 2008, at Staab Funeral Home. Visitation will begin with prayers at 5 p.m. The body will lie-in-state from 9 a.m. until time of funeral Mass at 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 20, 2008, at St. Joseph’s Church in Chatham with the Rev. John Nolan officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery in Pawnee, where military honors will be conducted by the Sangamon County Interveterans Burial Detail.
