Robert W. Padget
– Robert W. Padget, 83, of Springfield died at home surrounded by his immediate family on Sunday, July 5th, 2009.
He was born August 22, 1925, in Springfield, the son of Paul E. and Hazel Arnold Padget. He was married to Doris E. Shea in September, 1946, at St. Agnes Church, by Monsignor Amos Giusti.
Mr. Padget served in the U.S. Army during WWII, where he was wounded in Italy and received the Purple Heart and two bronze battle stars.
He retired from the U.S. Postal Service in 1980 with 35 years of service as a letter carrier. He then worked as production control supervisor at the Illinois State Bar Association, retiring in 1990.
He was a member of St. Agnes Church, St. Agnes Holy Name Society, a life member of Disabled American Veterans Chapter 15, a Gold Card member of the National Association of Letter Carriers, a lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus Council 364, and a member of the Out to Lunch Bridge Bunch.
Robert is survived by his wife, Doris; two daughters, Maurya (husband, Virgil) Beckum and Amy (husband, John) McNear of Springfield; one son, Bryan (wife, Cathryn) Padget of Springfield; 5 grandchildren, Kathryn Padget of Ontario, Canada, Brendan Padget, Allyson Padget, Hannah McNear, and Alexander McNear of Springfield; one great-granddaughter, Kerensa Padget-Costa of Cambridge, Ontario, Canada; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, July 7, 2009, at Staab Funeral Home with a prayer service at 4 p.m. Funeral mass will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 8, 2009, at St. Agnes Catholic Church, with Reverend Robert Jallas officiating. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery, with military honors. Memorials may be made to St. Agnes Church.
