SPRINGFIELD – Robert C. Nation, 74, of Springfield died at 4:35 p.m. Saturday, July 4, 2009, at his residence.
He was born Jan. 19, 1935, in Springfield, the son of John Herbert and Margaret Weis Nation.
He married Ruth A. Farley on Sept. 18, 1954.
He was preceded in death by his father, John Herbert Nation, and his mother, Margaret Nation-Compardo.
He is survived by his wife, Ruth A. Nation; a daughter, Donna (Dane) Lay of Sherman; four sons, Robert L. (Dolores) Nation of Springfield, Kenneth (Amy) Nation of Garland, Texas, Richard Nation of Springfield, and Randy A. (Kelly Large) Nation of Springfield; 10 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; a sister, Janice (Don) Radford of Sherman; four brothers, John Bud (Carol) Nation of Loami, Don (Carol) Nation of Springfield, Gary (Vickie) Nation of Springfield and Jerry (girlfriend, Rusty) Nation of Springfield; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Robert retired from Terminix after 35 years.
He was a member of Delaney’s Tavern Horseshoe Team, IHPA-Illinois Horseshoe Pitchers Assn. and ABATE. He was a past member of Eagles Aerie 437. He loved spending time with his family, his hot rods and motorcycles.
Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. until the time of funeral services at noon on Tuesday, July 7, 2009, at Staab Funeral Home, with the
Rev. Vaughn Beeman officiating. Burial will be at Oak Ridge Cemetery.
