Robert Matthew Lehnen
SPRINGFIELD – Robert Matthew Lehnen, 87, of Springfield died at 3:23 p.m. Sunday, April 20, 2008, at Memorial Medical Center.
He was born Aug. 11, 1920, in Springfield, the son of Matthew and Nellie Alkire Lehnen. He married LaVerne A. Santarelli on June 17, 1939.
He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant son, Richard Lehnen.
Mr. Lehnen was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II and a machinist for Sangamo Electric Co. from 1939 to 1977. He then worked for City Water, Light and Power Lake Services for 10 years.
He was a member of St. Joseph’s Church and the VFW. He was a Republican Precinct 12 committeeman and a Boy Scout leader for Troop 29.
Surviving are his wife, LaVerne A.; two daughters, Linda (husband, James) Mendenhall and Lois Adams, both of Springfield; a son, Robert W. (wife, Marilyn) Lehnen of Springfield; seven grandchildren, Christina (husband, William) McGlasson, Laura (husband, Matthew) Katterhenry, David (wife, Lisa) Adams, Matthew (fiancee, Laura) Adams, Lisa Seaton, Jennifer (fiance, Matthew) Mendenhall and Jeremy (fiance, Staci) Lehnen; seven great-grandchildren; an aunt, Thelma Moore; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, April 22, 2008, at Staab Funeral Home. Services will be there at 10 a.m. Wednesday, April 23, 2008, with Monsignor Thomas Holinga officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.
