Robert L. Jones

Robert L. Jones, 91, of Springfield, died at 9:02 pm, Saturday, July 13, 2013 at Villa West in Sherman, IL . He was born July 14, 1921 in Riverton to William and Sarah Covell Jones. Robert married Gena M. Roscetti on March 10, 1945. His wife Gena; his parents and one brother George Jones preceded him in death.

Survivors include two daughters Cheryl (Ronald) Fafoglia of Springfield; Judith (William) Capie of Carterville; six grandchildren Abigail (Kyle) Doherty of Kansas City, MO; Robert (Sarah) Fafoglia of Springfield; Jennifer (Steve) Sims of Carterville; Michelle (Chris) Lovett of Carterville; Sarah Capie of St. Louis; Will (Amber) Capie of Carterville; four great grandchildren Drake Capie; Cole and Baillie Jean Sims and Samuel Doherty.

Robert was a veteran of the United States Navy during WW II. He participated in the Normandy Invasion at Omaha Beach. He served in the Atlantic and Pacific Theatres. He was a member of the American Legion Post #32. In, May 2012 he took the Land of Lincoln Honor Flight to Washington, D.C. Robert retired in December 1977 from Fiat Allis after 33 years of service. He was a lifelong Chicago Cubs and Bears fan, an avid golfer, having 2 holes in one and Beat the Pro in the Channel 20 Promotion.

Visitation: 10am-12 noon Wednesday, July 17, 2013 at Staab Funeral Home.

Funeral Service: 12 noon Wednesday, July 17, 2013 at Staab Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery where Sangamon County
Interveterans Burial Detail will conduct military honors.
