Robert L. Crowder
Robert L. Crowder, 81, died at 7:00 am, Tuesday, May 26, 2015 at Memorial Medical Center. He was born July 12, 1933 in Springfield to Earl and Ellen M. (Ferguson) Crowder. He married Mary L. Hernandez July 12, 1952 and she preceded him in death. Also preceding him in death were his parents, a daughter, Myrna Crowder; a sister, Beatrice Felber and a great grandson, Benjamin Crowder.
Surviving are six children, Howard L. (Marianne) Crowder, Gary E. Crowder, Theresa Crowder, Sparky (Melanie) Crowder all of Springfield, Joseph M. Crowder of Sarasota, FL and Mark R. Crowder of Springfield; ten grandchildren, Melissa Whitley, Adam Crowder, Aaron Crowder, Joseph Gillette, Casey Carpenter, Dan Crowder, Angela Darling, Nicholas Crowder, Matt Crowder and Stephen Brent; fifteen great grandchildren, Nick Madonia, Jr., Ayreanna Crowder, Kara Whitley, Caden Crowder, Alyson Whitley, Autumn Carpenter, Cecilia Crowder, Maria Crowder, Addison Darling, Brennan Darling, Cali Brent, Caitlin Darling, Brynnly Brent, Jack Crowder and Lucy Gillette; one sister, Martha Gardner of Springfield and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
After graduating Feigthans high School, he enlisted in the United States Navy during the Korean War. After serving his county, Robert owned and operated several businesses in and around the Springfield Area. Pennington Equipment Company, installing and servicing grocery store refrigeration equipment; Refrigeration Distributing Company, designing supermarket equipment across the Midwest; Enerdyn Company, which patented and built the first energy efficient supermarket from the ground up, designing energy saving practices that are still being used today and Bullet Leasing, placing specialty equipment throughout the Midwest.
Memorial Mass was held Friday, May 29, 2015, followed by burial at Calvary Cemetery.
