Robert Joseph "Rob" Davis
Robert Joseph Davis passed away peacefully at his home in Springfield on March 25, 2013 at the age of 75.
Robert was born August 21, 1937 in Terre Haute, Indiana, the son of Everett and Josephine Davis.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers Marion “Rocky” Davis and James Davis, four sisters Nellie Davis, Peggy Davis, Ruth Bullerdick, and Betty Ford, one niece and two nephews. He was also preceded in death by his son Earl in 2001 and by his beloved Irish Setter, CIanci.
He married Shirley Kyle on September 13, 1961. They have two children, Dana Davis-Lehmann and Joe Davis, both of Springfield.
He was a 1955 graduate of Beardstown High School and a 1959 graduate of Illinois College in Jacksonville with a degree in Chemistry. He was also a graduate of Texas A & M in College Station, Texas with a degree in Meteorology. He was employed by the State of Illinois Department of Transportation as a chemist until his retirement in 1991. Robert was a man of Lutheran faith who spent four years in the United States Air Force with the rank of 1st Lieutenant. He attended Officers Training School in San Antonio, Texas. He was an avid St Louis Cardinals fan, loved studying the Civil War, loved working on crossword puzzles, and enjoyed spending time with his family.
Surviving are his wife, Shirley; daughter Dana Davis-Lehmann of Springfield; son, Joe Davis of Springfield; daughter-in-law, Joan Davis of Riverton; four grandchildren, Kelsie and Mackenzie Lehmann of Springfield, Mackenzie Davis of Riverton, and Zachary Davis of Lakeland, Florida. He is also survived by three nieces, Marge Young, Linda Neumeyer and Judy Anderson; and three nephews, Bill Davis, David Ford, and John Ford.
Visitation: 11:00 am – 12:00 pm, Thursday, March 28, 2013 at Staab Funeral Home.
Funeral Service: 12:00 pm, Thursday, March 28, 2013 at Staab Funeral Home with Pastor John Berg officiating.
Burial will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery, where Military Honors will be conducted by Sangamon County Interveterans Burial Detail.
