Robert D. Leveque
SHERMAN – Robert Big Bob D. LeVeque, 84, of Sherman died at 10:06 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 10, 2010, at Memorial Medical Center.
He was born June 18, 1925, in Carlinville, the son of Charles and Margaret McIntosh LeVeque. He married Maryalice Martinkus on Sept. 22, 1956.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Charles and James LeVeque.
He is survived by his wife, Maryalice LeVeque of Springfield; two daughters, Sarah (Keith) McGuire of Henderson, Nev., and Terri (Bobby) LeMasters of Sherman; two sons, Bobby (Tonya) LeVeque of Rochester and Lenny LeVeque of Springfield; three grandchildren, Amy LeVeque, Kyle Fitzpatrick and Corey Fitzpatrick; and three great-grandchildren, Elizabeth Norgaard, Alex LeVeque and Kyleigh LeVeque; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Robert lived in the Springfield area for most of his life. He retired from Carpenters Union Local 16.
He was a U.S. Marine veteran, serving during World War II as a mortar crewman in the Pacific, and he was on the first wave of several battles. He served in action in Okinawa and was active in the occupation of Hiroshima and Nagasaki after the bombings. He was a member of Eagles Aerie 437, DAV Hagler Hall, American Legion Post 32 and a past member of the Elks Lodge. He enjoyed golfing, bowling, fishing and watching all types of sports, especially those in which his kids, grandkids and great-grandkid participated.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 14, 2010, at Staab Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 11 am, Monday, Feb. 15, 2010, at Staab Funeral Home, with
Pastor Mark Gifford officiating. Burial will be at Camp Butler National Cemetery, where the Sangamon County Interveterans Burial Detail and the U.S. Marine Corps will conduct military honors.
