Rita A. Patton
Rita A. Patton, 93, of Springfield died at 5:25 pm, Wednesday, July 4, 2018 at Lewis Memorial Christian Village. She was born on July 9, 1924 in Springfield, IL to Anton J. and Anna Virtue (Doerfler) Maurer. She married Paul F. Patton on October 25, 1980 and he preceded her in death on October 12, 1997.
Also preceding her in death are her parents; one sister-in- law, Rosetta Maurer and two nephews, Christopher L. Maurer, DMD and John Maurer.
She is survived by two brothers, Joseph Jude Maurer, MD of Springfield and Anthony “Tony” (Julie) Maurer of Ft. Wayne, IN and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was a lifelong member of St. Agnes Church where she was baptized and married. Rita managed the Dew Chilli Parlor and later owned and operated the business until her retirement.
Visitation: 2:00 – 4:00 pm, Sunday, July 8, 2018 at Staab Funeral Home – Springfield.
Funeral Mass: 9:30 am, Monday, July 9, 2018 at St. Agnes Church with Reverend Robert Jallas officiating. Burial will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Christopher L. Maurer, DMD Scholarship Fund at Sacred Heart Griffin.

I inherited a family of great cousins when I married Charles J. Midden in '53. I particularly had a kind spot for Rita - the workaholic! She recognized talent and helped others achieve their potential while postponing her own dreams. I loved Rita.
