Richard L. “Tuba” Young, 51, of Springfield, died at 11 pm, Tuesday, May 12, 2015 at Memorial Medical Center. He was born July 20, 1963 in Springfield, to Ralph L. and Karen E. Gillard Young. He married Conny Horn on September 1, 2007, and she survives.

Also surviving are his son, of whom he was extremely proud, Jeremy Schaertl Young of Springfield; his father, Ralph L. Young of Springfield; mother and step-father Karen E. and Bob Schmidt of Springfield; one brother Raymond (Kelli) Young of Springfield; several aunts and uncles; three nieces; one nephew and several great nieces and nephews.

Richard was a graduate of St. Joseph’s Grade School and Griffin High School. He worked as a pressman/printer at Memorial Medical Center and also worked for Horace Mann, Franny’s, Red Coach and Cottage Inn.

He enjoyed racing, traveling, gardening, motorcycles and watching the Blackhawks.

Memorial Gathering: 12 – 2 pm, Saturday, May 16, 2015 at Staab Funeral Home. The family request casual attire for those attending.
