Richard E. Thomas
Richard E. Thomas, 81 of Auburn, Illinois, died at 12:10 am, Friday, July 15, 2011 at his home. He was born December 13, 1929 in LeTart, West Virginia to Harold Levi “Gunner” and Lucy Agnes Sayre Thomas. He married Mary Anne Reilly on December 17, 1976 and she survives.
Also surviving are four daughters, Barbara Nachtrab of Tallmadge, OH, Patricia (Bernard) Groom of Barberton, OH, Catherine (Anthony) Demeio of Tallmadge, OH and Laurie Ruggles of Springfield; nine sons, David (Beth) Thomas of Ft. Atkinson, WI, Richard (Jill) Thomas of Tallmadge, OH, Robert Thomas of Akron, OH, Michael Thomas of North Benton, OH, John Thomas of Tallmadge, OH, Donald (Michelle) Thomas of Sterling, OH, Randy (Anita) Clouse of Auburn, Eric (Betty) Clouse of Springfield and Mark (Teresa) Clouse of Auburn; many grandchildren and great grandchildren; two brothers, Raymond Delbert (Sharon) Thomas of Newton Falls, OH and James Edwin Marshall of Akron, OH and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
His parents; one sister Viola Eubanks and one brother Charles Wallace Thomas preceded him in death.
Richard was a long haul truck driver. He was a multi-million mile accident free driver. He was employed by Pacific Inter Mountain Express.
He was a U.S. Army veteran serving as a Machine Gun Instructor during the Korean War. He was of the Baptist Faith and was a member of Royal Order of the Moose from 1971-2007 and a member of the Teamsters Union. He enjoyed CB and Ham Radios and loved reading the Bible. He was a member of the NRA and enjoyed listening to music and traveling in their 5th wheel.
Visitation: 9-11 am, Wednesday, July 20, 2011 at Staab Funeral Home.
Funeral Service: 11 am, Wednesday, July 20, 2011 at Staab Funeral Home with Pastor Clint Cook officiating. Burial will be in Chatham Memorial Cemetery where Sangamon County Interveterans Detail will conduct military honors.
