Raymond Franklin Werner
Raymond Franklin Werner, 88, of Springfield died at 6:42 am Tuesday, April 23, 2013 at Memorial Medical Center. He was born August 25, 1924 in Springfield, IL to John and Anna Mueller Werner. He married Marilyn R. Mirow on February 28, 1948 and she preceded him in death on October 12, 2000. Also preceding him in death were his sister, Esther Wild and five brothers, Edward, Fred, John, Walter and Robert Werner.
Surviving are his good friend, Grace Carriker; two daughters, Marcia (Clayton) Vail of Altamont, IL and Susan Werner of Springfield; one son, Wayne (Jan) Werner of Effingham; six grandchildren, Elizabeth, Christopher, Jessica, Rebecca, Matthew and Andrew; twelve great grandchildren and several nieces, nephews.
Raymond grew up in the Springfield area. He was a graduate of Lanphier High School and served in the United States Navy during WWII and the Korean Conflict. Following his discharge from the military he resided in Evanston, Illinois and returned to Springfield in 1977. He retired from the United States Postal Service as a safety supervisor and was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church. Raymond was active in the Tin Can Sailors and past president of the local NALC.
Visitation: 4-7 pm, Thursday, April 25, 2013 at Staab Funeral Home.
Lie-in-state: 10-11 am Friday, April 26, 2013 at Immanuel Lutheran Church

Funeral Service: 11:00 am, Friday, April 26, 2013 at Immanuel Lutheran Church with Reverend Darrell Debowey officiating. Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park where Sangamon County Interveterans Burial Detail will conduct military honors.
Memorials contributions may be made to Immanuel Lutheran Church or Susan G. Komen Foundation.
