Raymond A. "Pat" Schafer
Raymond A. “Pat” Schafer, 92, of Springfield died at 7:55 am, Monday, June 5, 2017. He was born March 17, 1925 in Springfield, to Anthony and Alta Flynn Schafer. He married Nina Erlene Walker on September 3, 1951 and she preceded him in death on March 28, 2014.
Survivors include two daughters, Linda (Nick) Ketchum and Patricia (Mike) Ratterree both of Springfield; six sons, Stephen of Colorado, Paul of Florida, Dennis of New Mexico, Scott (Debbie) of Colorado and Jim (Andrea) and Robert Schafer, both of Springfield; fourteen grandchildren, several great and great great grandchildren; one brother, William “Bill” of New Jersey and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, son, Anthony Erving, two sisters and one brother.
Raymond was a member of St. Joseph’s Church, VFW, Catholic War Veterans, Knights of Columbus #364 and was a 4th degree Knight.
He worked for Plumbers Union Local #134 and Elevator Constructers Local #92. He retired from Otis Elevator. He was a United States Navy veteran serving during World War II.
A visitation will be held from 9:30 am until time of services at 11:30 am, Monday, June 12, 2017 at Staab Funeral Home-Springfield with Reverend Robert Jallas officiating. Burial will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery where military honors will be conducted.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association.
