Phyllis Ann Hodde

Phyllis Ann Hodde, 79, of Springfield, died at 6:15 am, Thursday, May 1, 2014 at St. John’s Hospice. She was born June 7, 1934 in Assumption, Illinois to Laurence and Lucille Dechaney Vilmure. Phyllis lived most of her life in Springfield and graduated from Sacred Heart Academy. Married in 1960 to Donald Tate, she was blessed with two children. She married Harry Hodde on April 21, 1979, who preceded her in death on April 25, 1981.

Her parents also preceded her in death.

Survivors include her daughter, Elizabeth (Tim Knuth) Tate of Chicago; her son, Larry (Keri) Tate of Springfield; three grandchildren, Brittany Tate Beaugard, Ryne Tate and Simon Knuth; and three great grandchildren, Jamieson, Lincoln and Kenley Beaugard.

Phyllis worked for the State of Illinois in the Department of Insurance, retiring after over 30 years of employment. She was also an Admirality member of the Island Bay Yacht Club.

Anyone who knew Phyllis knew her smile and laugh, which were always readily available. They would know that she was a Cub fan in this life and in the next and remained optimistic to the end. Her family would tell you that she was a loving mother, and a devoted friend to her grandchildren. Phyllis was an incredible storyteller; she always knew the kind of story you needed to hear at the right time. Finally, Phyllis loved a party. The family will host a Celebration of Phyllis’s Life at her residence on Sunday, May 4th from 3-7 pm. Please join us to raise a glass to a woman who will never be forgotten.
