SPRINGFIELD – Pete Maggio, 87, of Springfield died at 5:50 p.m. Tuesday, June 9, 2009, in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.
He was born Nov. 8, 1921, in Springfield, the son of Jasper and Anna Catalano Maggio. He married Mary Ellen Archer on May 11, 1946; she preceded him in death on March 15, 1997.
He was also preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Frances Wilkerson; and four brothers, Sam, Anthony, Joseph, and Jasper.
He is survived by two daughters, Patricia (Harvey) Bally of Springfield and Sue (Steven) Sim of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.; two nieces; and five nephews.
Pete was a lifelong resident of Springfield. He worked at Stafford Press, Robinson Advertising Agency, Rose-Weiss, Citizens Tribune, and then was employed at The State Journal-Register press room for 32 years.
He was a member of Blessed Sacrament Church, charter member of the TRN Club, and member of Springfield Printing Pressman’s Union 30 where he served as president for many years. In retirement he was active in Springfield Trades and Labor Council. He was a member of the United States Marine Corps serving during WWII.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday, June 15, 2009, at Staab Funeral Home, with a prayer service at 4 p.m. Funeral mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, June 16, 2009, at Blessed Sacrament Church, with the Rev. David Hoefler officiating. Burial will be at Camp Butler National Cemetery, where military services will be conducted.
