SPRINGFIELD – Paul Royce Fry, 80, of Springfield died at 10:03 a.m. Tuesday, April 22, 2008, at St. John’s Hospital.

He was born Dec. 20, 1927, in Malden, Mo., the son of John H. and Gladys L. Smith Fry. He married Florence Cacioppo on June 4, 1980.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Joseph Al and Dora Ann Crites Fry and George W. and Beatrice Boner Smith; his parents; a brother, John H. Fry Jr.; and a sister, Quida Fry.

Mr. Fry was a resident of Springfield for most of his life. He was a teacher at Malden High School, worked as an engineer for the Missouri State Highway Department and was a key account representative for IBM Corp. He was a planning coordinator for the state of Illinois, management information systems director for New Mexico data processing and communications council and program management engineer for the New Mexico Department of Transportation. He attended grade school near Malden, Mo., and Malden High School. He graduated from the University of Missouri in 1950 with a Bachelor of Arts and majors in mathematics and physics. He was a U.S. Navy veteran. He was in active duty from June 1945 to July 1946 and in inactive reserves from 1946 to 1950, and was a member of the U.S. Army Engineer Reserve from 1956 to 1960. He was a member of Central Baptist Church, Elks 158, AARP, past president for two years and a member of American Legion Post 32.

He was a wonderful loving husband for 28 years to his wife, Florence G. Fry of Springfield. Also surviving are three daughters, Deborah Kay Grman, Nancy Lee (husband, Tim) Rice and Joyce Fry, all of Springfield; a son, John R. (wife, Lynette) Fry of Springfield; a stepson, Stephen J. Cacioppo of Springfield; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a sister, Fay (husband, James) Alexander of South Carolina; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday, April 27, 2008, at Staab Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Monday, April 28, 2008, at Central Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. Reg Mills officiating. Burial will be in Camp Butler National Cemetery, where military honors will be conducted.
