Othel Mae West
Othel Mae West, 89, died at 3:45 am Thursday, April 30, 2015 at St. John’s Hospice. She was born July 17, 1925 in Little Rock, AR to Henry Willis and Mattie (Jones) Brown. She was preceded in death by her parents; two husbands; one son, Theodore Draper; two sisters, Mattie Johnson and Willie Mae Brown and four brothers, Ananias (Gerald) Brown, Oscar Brown, Clifford Brown and Robert Brown.
Surviving are a daughter, Rita (Jim) DeBerry of Shaker Heights, OH; five grandchildren, Prudence Draper of Springfield, Raenette Draper-Odoh of Aurora, Ariann Draper and Camron Graves both of Phoenix, AZ and Danielle DeBerry of Shaker Heights, OH; five great grandchildren; one brother, Charles Brown of Jamaica, NY and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was a member of Union Baptist Church since 1937, former Treasurer of the Annie L. Wilson Missionary Circle. She was a former Usher and Announcing Clerk at her church. She also drove for Meals on Wheels. Othel retired from the State of Illinois.
Visitation: 10-11 am Friday, May 8, 2015 at Union Baptist Church.
Funeral Service: 11:00 am Friday, May 8, 2015 at Union Baptist Church with Pastor T. Ray McJunkins officiating. She will be buried at Oak Ridge Cemetery with her son, Ted.
Memorials may be given to Union Baptist Church Scholarship Fund.
